Multidimensional Food Security Nexus in Drylands under the Slow Onset Effects of Climate Change

چکیده

Hyperarid, arid, semiarid, and dry subhumid areas cover approximately 41% of the global land area. The human population in drylands, currently estimated at 2.7 billion, faces limited access to sufficient, affordable, nutritious food. We discuss interlinkages among water security, environmental energy economic health food security governance, how they affect drylands. Reliable adequate supply, prevention contamination, increase potential for ample food, fodder, fiber production. Protecting woodlands rangelands increases by buffering slow onset effects climate change, including biodiversity loss, desertification, salinization, degradation. protection natural lands is expected decrease simultaneously, reduce transfer diseases from wildlife humans. Biofuel production hydroelectric power plants but generate land-use conflicts, deforestation, ecosystem Economic generally positively correlates with security. However, growth often degrades environment, changes tenure rights over resources, stimulates migration urban areas, resulting lower Moreover, civil unrest, political instability, armed conflicts disrupt local economies Maintaining crucial security; conversely, malnourished populations unresponsive systems adversely environmental, energy, Climate change deteriorate spreading vector-borne diseases. Effective governance timely interventions can substantially shorten periods insecurity, their intensities, accelerate recovery inevitable crises, are therefore preventing humanitarian crises. Since drylands will nearly double 2050, since most susceptible integrated multi-hazard approaches needed.

Global food security under climate change.

This article reviews the potential impacts of climate change on food security. It is found that of the four main elements of food security, i.e., availability, stability, utilization, and access, only the first is routinely addressed in simulation studies. To this end, published results indicate that the impacts of climate change are significant, however, with a wide projected range (between 5 ...

Climate change and food security.

Dynamic interactions between and within the biogeophysical and human environments lead to the production, processing, distribution, preparation and consumption of food, resulting in food systems that underpin food security. Food systems encompass food availability (production, distribution and exchange), food access (affordability, allocation and preference) and food utilization (nutritional an...

The Forecast of Economic Welfare and Food Security of Iran under Climate Changes*

Food security and economic welfare strongly depend on agricultural production, the loss of this production can be a serious challenge for food security and economic welfare. Agricultural production is also influenced by environmental and climatic factors so that the variations of climatic parameters can trigger extensive fluctuations in agricultural production. This study classifies climate cha...
